SF School Shutdown

Support Week

February 9–13 | Terra San Francisco

Due to the upcoming public school shutdown next week, Terra will be opening its doors to support families who need care during this time.

We are offering a temporary school-week program for children from SF public schools, in a warm, structured, and enriching environment.

Our goal is simple: to help families feel supported, and to give children a meaningful week of learning, connection, and care.

Who this week is for

This week is designed for families impacted by the school closure who are looking for a reliable and engaging option for their children.

We welcome ages 2-4 & 5-7.

Earth Education at Terra

Earth Education is an essential part of the Terra experience. On designated days, children spend time outdoors connecting with nature through guided exploration, movement, and hands-on discovery. These moments encourage curiosity, observation, and a deeper awareness of the natural world.

For this support week, Preschool (PK) students participate in Earth Education on Thursdays and Fridays, while TK through 4th grade students take part on Mondays. Families will be informed in advance when their child is scheduled for an Earth Education day.

On these days, children should come prepared for outdoor learning. Please send a backpack with lunch, two snacks, and a reusable water bottle, along with an extra set of clothes (shirt, underwear, socks, and pants) in case your child gets wet or dirty. If your child requires personal medication, please connect with the lead counselor on site to discuss medications or allergies. For outdoor days, hand sanitizer and sunscreen are also needed.

Children should wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes, with layers appropriate for the weather. On rainy days, please include a raincoat and rain boots. On warmer days, a hat is recommended for sun protection.

Terra is a nut-free program, so please do not pack food containing nuts. On outdoor days, we recommend packing snacks and lunch in lightweight containers to keep backpacks easy to carry, especially for walks or short hikes. Brown paper bags or reusable plastic bags work well.
